Blake Middle School was evacuated around noon today after a burning odor was detected in the art wing.
Around noon today, Blake Middle School was evacuated after the fire alarms went off. Principal Nathaniel Vaughn advised Blake families this afternoon that a "burning smell in the art wing” set off the alarms and the building was evacuated. The fire and police departments investigated, and the cause of the smell was a burned out heat motor in the ventilation system. The problem has been addressed and all students returned to their last period class for the afternoon. “As a safety precaution, the school is keeping the art rooms clear while the space is ventilated,” Vaughn said. “We commend our students and staff for their cooperation and responsibility during our evacuation.”
