"Ben Speaks Louder Than Words" is an organization based in Medway and started by the mother of Ben Giovangelo after took his own life in 2009.

After her son Ben took his own life in 2009 at age 18, his mother Judy Giovangelo of Medway, set out to help teens deal with the hardships of growing up without resorting to reckless behavior. Her organization is called Ben Speaks.  Thanks to a group of Medfield eighth graders, Giovangelo will speak to Blake Middle School students on Friday.  Lily Doctoroff and her Destination Imagination team suggested the presentation to Blake administrators. Even though we are a tight-knit community here in Medfield, there are still kids suffering with bullies and harassment and I don't believe any child should have to endure that. "Ben Speaks" clearly portrays that message and I'm proud to be part of it. To raise awareness, the DI Team -- named “…

Blake Students Take on Teachers for Volleyball Title

Here's a look at annual Blake Volleyball Extravaganza. School reps say this is the first year in the history of the game that the sixth grade students have out-played their teachers.

On Friday, Feb. 15, the Blake Middle School community turned out for the 2013 Volleyball Extravaganza where students play against teachers in a series of three eight-minute games. Check out the great photos Patch caught for the 6th and 8th grade games (our apologies to the 7th grade whose game was in the morning). The crowds were cheering and the bleachers were rumbling as students were cheered and teachers were jeered when they took the court. An enthusiastic and colorful announcer introduced the teams and the loud music pumped up the crowd during the event. For the first time in the 20-plus years of the game, the sixth grade student team won two of its three games – with scores 24-9, 15-20, 25-19 -- to triumph over the sixth grade …

You Ask, Patch Answers: Did They All Die in Vietnam?

In this column, you ask a question and Patch tries to find the answer.

While preparing for the dedication of a plaque in honor of Medfield soldiers who served during the Vietnam War, the Memorial Veterans' Plaque Committee created a lengthy list of names to be included on the plaque and then asked for the public's help to make sure the names were correct (and no one was missing or on the list incorrectly).  After posting that list, a Patch reader asked, "Please tell me that all these names are people who died in Vietnam."  So we posed the question to committee member Richard DeSorgher who said the names belong to students who attended the Amos Clark Kingsbury High School and who also served in the military in the years between 1961 and 1975 (the dates the American Legion lists for the Vietnam period). Two …
