MHS Girls Basketball State Champions Receive Police/Fire Escort Upon Return Home

The Medfield police and fire departments escorted the state champs through town after their win on Saturday.

  What were all those sirens coming through town around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday? That was the arrival home of the Medfield Lady Warriors Basketball team who, just a few hours earlier, won the Division 2 Girls Basketball State Championship. In an exciting game at the DCU Center in Worcester, Medfield topped Nashoba Regional High School 54-36. Nashoba made the first point but Medfield soon took the lead and kept it throughout the game. Both teams played hard. MHS Girls Basketball in State Finals on Saturday

Tune into Medfield Patch on Saturday during game time when we will bring the game to you on CoverItLive.

  After an impressive win in the Division 2 State Semifinals, Medfield Girls Basketball is off to the finals tomorrow (Saturday, March 16) at the DCU Center in Worcester. On Monday, the Warriors ended the Reading Memorial Rockets with a score of 59-51 in overtime.  HERE are photos from the semi-finals.  The game is scheduled to start at 2:15 p.m. against the Nashoba Chieftains. Big Blue Finishes Season 13-8

The team finishes the year with an overall record of 13 wins and 8 losses.

The Medfield Big Blue traveled to Dorchester High School on Thursday night and lost their first round tournament game 69-52.   John Zimmerman lead the team with 20 points.   The team finishes the year with an overall record of 13 wins and 8 losses.   This closes out the Big Blue careers for John Zimmerman, Matt Pembroke, Remy Fragola, John Pendergast, Henry Stromland, and Eddie Warren. Medfield Girls Basketball Wins Over Oliver Ames

Medfield Girls' Basketball wins its regular season, 61-55.

  Medfield Girls' Basketball finished its regular season with a win over Oliver Ames at last week's Walpole Tourney, according to the Boston Herald. The Warriors won the game -- which was a rematch of last year's Walpole Tournament finals in which Oliver Ames spoiled Medfield's perfect season hopes with final-minute heroics -- with a score of 61-55.  "We talked about that during our timeout with five seconds left," Medfield coach t Mark Nickerson told Patch after the game.  "I said ‘You’ve been here before. If the old adage is true that you learn more from your mistake than you do from your successes, we should be all set.’ We just talked about what happened last year and things we can do to avoid that from happening now, and the girls did…

Historic Comeback for Big Blue

On Tuesday, Medfield High School's Big Blue Basketball team made an historic comeback in a game against Bellingham. Down by 26 points in the first half, the Medfield Boys Big Blue stormed back and captured a 58-55 win at Bellingham.   It certainly was a tale of two halves.   Bellingham shot the lights out in the first half, hitting eight three-point shots. Down 38-13 at the half, the Big Blue came out and outscored Bellingham 31-4 in the third quarter to capture the lead.    Drew Shea led a balanced scoring attack with 15 points, Matt Pembroke had 13, Remy Fragola had 12, and …

Park & Rec’s Kinder Basketball Off to a Fast Start

The popular program attracted 54 Kindergarten children last Saturday.

The following was submitted by Park and Recreation Program Coordinator Kevin Ryder.  The popular Kinder Basketball League through the Medfield Parks & Recreation Department got off to a fast start Saturday morning, with 54 Kindergarteners on six teams participating in practices and games at the Memorial School gymnasium. Splashed in their team colors – red, orange, Kelly green, charcoal, royal blue and gold – the players were put through drills by the volunteer parent coaches, including passing, dribbling, defense and shooting.  Once practice was over, each team participated in a game, where fun and learning the basic rules were emphasized. The league will run throughout the winter and into early April on Saturday mornings from 9am to noon…

Big Blue's Winning Streak Ends to Ashland

Last week, the Medfield High School's Boys "Big Blue" Basketball team's seven game winning streak came to an end in Ashland. The team lost a hard fought game 55-47.   Drew Shea lead the team with 16 points and John Zimmerman chipped in with 13. Friday night, the team got back on the winning track with a come-from-behind 60-48 win over a pesky Millis team.  Down by one at the half, the team came out with much better focus and energy and held Millis to just 19 second half points.   Drew Shea had 24 points and 10 rebounds, John Zimmerman had 19 …

Big Blue Has Two Big Road Wins

The Medfield Big Blue boy's basketball team had two big road wins last week.   On Wednesday, the team started the new year with an exciting 57-41 win over Medway.   Highlights included: On Friday, the team escaped with a 60-54 win over a much-improved Holliston team.   Down by 2 points at the end of the third quarter the Big Blue buckled down on defense and held the hot shooting panthers to just 5 points in the fourth quarter.   Highlights included: The team will try to keep its winning streak going this week with home games against Westwood …

"Big Blue" Wins Again

After a 0-2 start the Medfield Big Blue Boy's Basketball team has won their last three games!   Over the holiday break, the team traveled to non-league Weston where it escaped with a 58-53 win.  Drew Shea scored a season high 31 points, and John Zimmerman chipped in with 10.    On Dec. 29th, the team beat a pesky Millis squad 76-61.   Remy Fragola scored a career high 26 points in the win, John Zimmerman also had a career high 23 points, and Matt Pembroke had a strong effort with 9 points and 5 assists.   The team is gearing up for two big …
