Warriors Ballroom Dance Showcase Held on Saturday

Medfield High School students learn ballroom dancing as part of the district's wellness curriculum.

  On Saturday, Feb. 2, students of Medfield High School Dancing participated in the Warriors Ballroom Dance Showcase at the high school.   The event was organized by MHS wellness teacher Karen Renaud, and was supported by a grant from the MCPE (Medfield Coalition for Public Education) and the Medfield Parent Teacher Organization.   TELL US -- What do you think about students learning ballroom dancing in school? Coalition Grants $66k So Far This School Year

Fundraising continues for the Medfield Coalition for Public Education which has awarded $66,000 in grants to the schools so far this year.

The following is a press release submitted by MCPE.   The Medfield Coalition for Public Education has invested over $66,000 in Medfield's five schools in the first half of the school year. These funds--in the form of 14 grants--will enhance curriculum and learning in many ways, including new technologies and books in the classroom, performing arts and special speakers, and professional development opportunities. “It’s been exciting to fund such a variety of grants. MCPE aims to have a direct impact on students across all areas of the curriculum and school experience. Viewfinder: Dancin' for a Pair of 'Golden Shoes' at Medfield High

Sophomores at Medfield High School participated in third annual Golden Shoes Ballroom Dancing Competition as part of wellness program. Winners of the competition were awarded the 'Golden Shoes' plaque.

When health and wellness teacher Karen Renaud arrived at Medfield High School three years ago, she had a vision: to start a ballroom dance course.  “I have a passion for dancing, I enjoy it and it is part of our Massachusetts State Curriculum framework so it worked right in," Renaud said. "I don’t know if [dancing] has been done before I got here to school. When I came over I talked to my colleagues and they were all for it and we just started a ballroom dancing unit." The unit is currently in its third year and is a three-week program within the sophomore wellness curriculum. The portion of the wellness course is highlighted by a dance competition and performance for the "Golden Shoes." The class period that performs the best is crowned …
