Your Guide: Pick-Up Soccer Games

Children in grades 1 to 8 are encouraged to drop in, have fun, play with their friends, try new soccer techniques, and get some exercise, all at the same time.

Children in grades to 1 to 8 are invited to participate in a pickup game of soccer on Sunday.

The program, sponsored by Medfield Youth Soccer, runs from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Sundays through Labor Day on the fields on Elm Street behind the Wheelock School.

"The purpose of the program is to provide the kids in Medfield, of all ages and playing abilities, the opportunity to play soccer in an unstructured environment during the summer months," said MYS Board Member John Thompson. "During the school years, players typically participate on youth soccer teams in a very structured and formal program. Pick-up soccer enables the players to have freedom to develop new skills away from an environment focused on drills and training programs."

The hope is that students have fun, play with their friends, try new soccer techniques, and get some exercise, he said, and the kids seem to love it.
