TODAY: Medfield State Hospital Visioning Session

The State Hospital Advisory Committee will hold a Visioning Workshop on Saturday, Jan. 11, which the public is encouraged to attend. 

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Center at Medfield, One Ice House Road. 

"It's a five-hour event broken up into two parts. The first half is a "What would you like?" discussion with information, back story and history; then lunch with some case studies; and the afternoon will be scenario-building," explained Medfield Town Planner Sarah Raposa. 

The Board of Selectmen has agreed to the terms of the potential sale of approximately 134 acres of the Medfield State Hospital (MSH) property to the Town; however, a transaction will take place only after a detailed purchase and sales agreement has been agreed upon and approved by the residents of Medfield 
at a special town meeting that will be scheduled in the next few months.  

In preparation for this important decision, on January 11, 2014 the State Hospital Advisory Committee (SHAC) will hold a Visioning Workshop to learn the views and comments of residents for potential uses of the property.  

Presentations made by members of SHAC will cover a variety of topics including: 

• factual background information on the property and buildings, 
• details regarding the terms of the sale offered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to the Town of Medfield, and 
• summaries of surveys and studies concerning various aspects of the site.  
• Participants -- organized in small break-out groups -- will engage in brain-storming and discussion sessions of the opportunities and issues.
