Things You Can Do To Help Western Mass. Tornado Victims

Western Massachusetts residents are still in need of help recovering from the deadly tornadoes that ravaged the Springfield area on June 1.

In June,. However, those hard hit communities are still in need of help from local citizens throughout the Commonwealth.

Here are just some of the ways you can help those that are still in need following the disasters.

  • The United Way of Tri-County has set up aStatewide Disaster Relief Fund, with all donations being publically matched by the New England Patriots
  • The Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) is helping solicit donations from across the country as part of its National Donations Management Network.
  • Connect and Serve is a website run by the State of Massachusetts that helped those looking to volunteer in their communities find non-profit groups before the storm, and they’re continuing to do the same now.
  • Donations to the Pioneer Valley chapter of the American Red Cross are being accepted by mail at 506 Cottage St.,  Springfield, MA 01104, online at www.redcross.org, by phone at 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767), or by texting “REDCROS” to 90999.
  • Monetary donations to the Salvation Army can be made online at www.salvationarmy-ma.org, or by texting “TSAMA10” to 85944 or by calling (339) 502-5900.
  • Donations are being accepted by the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts online atwww.foodbankwma.org.
