Pet of the Week: Meet Olivia

Olivia is currently available for adoption at the Medfield Animal Shelter.

Olivia is an adorable six-month-old guinea pig.

Her dad, Oliver and her brother, Ollie are also at the Medfield Animal Shelter. Olivia was the result of an accidental litter after the pet shop sold her previous owners a female when their first piggie was a male, according to Kim Agircola of the Medfield Animal Shelter.

"She was hand raised and enjoys human attention," Agricola says. "Her adoption fee includes a cage. Guinea pigs are active, gentle, relatively low maintenance pets that love companionship, delight in cuddles and make great pets for gentle children six years old and up."

Guinea pigs are happiest when they have a clean cage and lots of interactive socialization time with their person. They do require fresh hay and greens (lettuce, parsley, basil, etc.) on a daily basis and adopters should consider this expense when adding a guinea pig to their family.
