Medfield Community Service Group Packs Backpacks for Ethiopian Children

Eight girls from Medfield High School that make up the 16 Hands Community Service Group recently met their goal of packing school supplies for Ethiopian orphans.

The 16 Hands community service group, consisting of eight Medfield High School ninth grade girls: Molly Crabtree, Kristina Gustafson, Delaney Lawson, Cami McCurdy, Kelsey McKenzie, Julia Pagliarulo, Caroline Tschirch, and Abby Viles, fulfilled their goal of filling 100 backpacks with school supplies to be donated to orphans in Ethiopia.

Each backpack contains pencils, pens, a notebook, markers, erasers, pencil sharpeners and pencil cases. They could not have done it without the support of the Medfield community. Through the money they raised at the 16 Hands Medfield Day booth and sales of “Ever so Humble Pies” during the Thanksgiving season, they were able to raise over $1,000 to complete this project.

"This project has given the girls' greater awareness of their world around them," said Mary Tschirch. "They have realized how much children in America take for granted. 16 Hands is looking forward to participating in many more community service events and would like to thank [the community] for [its] generous donations."
