Medfield Boy Scout Collecting Sports Equipment for Eagle Project

Patrick Dalton is collecting Medfield's "gently used" sports equipment to donate to Goodwill. There are several drop off sites for residents to donate equipment, including at the Transfer Station on April 28, 29 and May 5.

Aspiring Eagle Scout Patrick Dalton of Boy Scout Troop 89, Medfield is hoping to collect “just one” piece of gently used sports equipment from each Medfield resident, which will then be donated to Goodwill.

“The official name of my [Eagle Scout] project is “Just One Thing,” Dalton said. “I am collecting the Medfield community’s gently used sports equipment, which will then be donated to Goodwill. The significance of the [project] title is that there are about 12,000 people who live in Medfield and if everyone were to donate just one thing, well … that’s a lot of things.”

To become an Eagle Scout, Dalton must complete an Eagle Project, which ultimately benefits a nonprofit organization or community. Dalton has organized a project for the entire Medfield community to get involved and donate to Goodwill – an organization dedicated to helping people earn a living, improve their lives and strengthen their families and their communities.

So what exactly is Dalton looking to collect from residents? The answer, according to the Medfield Boy Scout, is any gently used sporting goods.

“I will accept it all,” Dalton said. “Cleats, baseball and softball gloves, bats, boxing gloves, golf clubs and golf balls, soccer balls, footballs, baseballs, tennis balls, tennis rackets, roller blades and skate boards. Anything.”

Dalton has set up four locations around town for residents to donate their sporting goods equipment. They are:

“Donation bins are located within the Medfield High School, so any subscribers you have with high school kids can have them bring equipment there,” Dalton said. “This donation process is already underway, and will end Friday, May 4.”

At the Tansfer Station, Dalton has made a sign (see photo above) that will be put outside the entrance of the station advertising the dates for the donation booth, which will be run by Boy Scout Troop 89. The booth will be open during the weekend dates of Saturday and Sunday, April 28-29, and Saturday, May 5.

“This will hopefully give the residents of Medfield an outlet to donate their items,” Dalton said.

Dalton has also created a Facebook page, “Just One Thing Sports Equipment Collection” for anyone with questions about making a sports equipment donation. Dalton also encourages residents with questions to call him at (508) 314-8806 or e-mail him at big_pat_kaboom@yahoo.com.
