Earth Day Charles River Cleanup this Weekend

Last year over 3,000 volunteers worked to remove 50 tons of trash along the 80 miles stretch of the Charles River from Boston to Bellingham.

Groups and individuals along the Charles River will be rolling up their sleeves to help clean up areas on its banks and tributaries as part of the Charles River Watershed Association's annual cleanup.

The 13th Annual Earth Day Charles River Cleanup will be this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Since 2000, Charles River Watershed Association (CRWA) and a dedicated group of partner organizations and agencies have celebrated Earth Day by engaging local citizens in the state’s largest river cleanup. This year, CRWA expects a record number of participants to join in this watershed-wide effort.

Since 2000, the Annual Earth Day Charles River Cleanup has been the largest coordinated Earth Day cleanup in Massachusetts, attracting more than 100 volunteer groups from businesses, universities, neighborhoods, civic associations, and scout troops. Cleanup volunteers make a huge difference in the health and beauty of the river by picking up trash at numerous sites along the 80-mile river from Milford to Boston.

The Annual Earth Day Charles River Cleanup is a great opportunity to celebrate Earth Day and to observe Greater Boston residents engaged in service for their communities. This year’s Cleanup is part of National Volunteer Week, which runs from April 15 to 21.

Every volunteer will receive a free t-shirt designed by MassART student Nathan Olson.
