'Discover Medfield Day' Booth Registration Now Open

Registration for Discover Medfield Day 2012, September 15, is now open.

While preference was given to 2011 participants and MEMO (Medfield Employers and Merchants Organization) members during the first two months, unreserved booth sites now will be given on a first come first served basis.  Registration is available on-line at www.medfieldmemo.org and checks to secure the chosen booth site must be paid within ten days to MEMO, PO Box 6, Medfield MA 02052 or at Rockland Trust Bank on North St.  The registration information regarding fees with other pertinent references will be found on the website under Medfield Day. 

More than 100 of the 150 exhibit spaces have been reserved for the 33rd annual Medfield Day organized by MEMO for the community.  It is a “back-to-normal-after-the-summer-hiatus” fair and a reunion for the many residents who moved from Medfield after the fair began in 1980.  Merchants organized as the local business organization in 1979 and conceived the idea of a fair to introduce residents to its purpose and to the merchants and employers serving the town.

Clay Family Dealerships is the Platinum Sponsor for 2012 once again.  The Dental Office of orthodontists Dr. Geoffrey Glick and Dr. Stanley Starr is the Gold sponsor.  Several other available corporate sponsorship categories can be found on the website. MEMO appreciates its corporate sponsors who help defray the expense of the day. 

Discover Medfield Day includes more than 150 sites for exhibitors from Medfield and area businesses, civic and service organizations, schools, churches, craft persons and political organizations (especially in election years).  The fair concourse surrounding Meeting House Pond and along North Street is colored by booths decorated in accordance with the exhibitor’s purpose or within the theme chosen for the day by the planning committee.  This year’s theme is “Medfield Reads” coordinated with the Library’s program that encouraged everyone to read Outwitting History. 

The parking lot adjacent to Montrose School contains a “Kids Alley”, staffed by volunteers from Medfield High School Student Council” and MEMO.  It contains all the fun inflatable activities that kids of all ages love.  There are slides, obstacle courses, bouncy/jumping castles and more. 

In another area in the park behind the historic first Parish Meeting House a Food Court supplies lunches or snacks from local restaurants and civic fund raising groups.  They offer a wide variety of favorites and many open before the lunch hour for coffee, soda or lemonade for the thirsty.  Water is usually sold around the fair and a number of other organizations offer hot dogs, sausages, popcorn and baked goods in locations off the food court.

While all this activity and education is going on, live entertainment is happening on the main concourse from 9:30 a.m. through to 3 p.m.  In front of the entertainment tent MEMO places its own information booth.  Staffed by volunteers it tracks lost and found, provides information and features a number of specialty items donated by members for a silent auction.  Some of the items will be available by raffle as well.  In conjunction with the theme Medfield Reads, MEMO will give one free raffle ticket to anyone who donates one or more new or gently used books at the MEMO booth for the Friends of the Library.  The proceeds of this venture go to the Scholarship Fund.

Except for catastrophic weather conditions, Medfield Day is a rain or shine event.

The day will be postponed to September 22, 2012, if a tropical storm hits the area.
