Winter Sports Seasons Begin at Medfield High School

The 2011-2012 winter athletic seasons at Medfield High School began this past Saturday with the track and swim teams in action.

The rest of the Warriors get underway this week. Here's a roundup of how Medfield's winter sports programs look heading into the 2011-2012 season:

Medfield High School Boys' Basketball

• 2010-2011 Record: 11-10, 11-9
• Tri-Valley League Finish: 11-9 (fourth).
• How 2010-2011 Ended: Lost, 76-70 to Scituate in the first round of the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional tournament. Medfield was the 14th seed in the tournament.
• Head Coach: Herb Grace
• Captains: Tom Conlon, Sam Tawa.
• Key players: Tom Conlon, Sam Tawa, Jonny McCarthy, Drew Shea, Bobby Hunter, John Averill and John Zimmerman.
• Key losses: Ben Coutinho, Jake Bankert.

Medfield High School Girls' Basketball

• 2010-2011 Record: 20-3, 18-0
• Tri-Valley League Finish: First (second straight unbeaten season and third straight TVL title)
• How 2010-2011 Ended: Lost to Bishop Feehan, 50-40 in the quarterfinal round of the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional State Tournament. Medfield earned the first seed in the sectional tournament.
• Head Coach: Mark Nickerson
• Key players: Jen Narlee, Ali Gold, Lauren Petit, Kristen Fechtelkotter, Kate Thomas.
• Key losses: Natalie Dickinson, Kate Wasley, Hillary Collins, Maddie Bouchard.
