The Medfield High School girls' soccer team advances to the quarterfinal round of the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional State Tournament after Monday's 4-0 victory over Hopkinton.
An energized Medfield High School girls' soccer team erupted for four first-half goals Monday to open its MIAA Division 2 South Sectional State Tournament play with a 4-0 victory over Hopkinton Monday at Calvin George Fisher Memorial Field.
It was Medfield's third straight victory over Hopkinton this season as the Warriors defeated its Tri-Valley League foe 4-2 on Sept. 9 and 2-1 on Oct. 11.
Monday's victory was arguably Medfield's most impressive effort this season as the Warriors dominated in every phase of the game.

Medfield (15-0-4), the tournament's second seed, came out of the gate flying against the Hillers, swarming to the ball with an up-tempo style of soccer. The Warriors' aggressive play paid off early as Caroline Russell netted the game's first goal less than four minutes into the contest.
The senior defender struck a well-positioned ball from 25 yards out and watched it sail over the head of Hopkinton's goalkeeper and under the crossbar for the early 1-0 lead.
