Medfield High School football captains Alex Opiela and Ife Adebayo among four Warriors named Tri-Valley League All-Stars.

Despite a 2-8, (0-4) season, the football team has built a competitive reputation around the Tri-Valley League this season and that reputation was evident this week when the TVL coaches elected league all-stars.

Medfield head coach Erik Ormberg has praised the Warriors’ senior class throughout the season for their leadership, competitiveness, hard work and desire for the game of football. On Tuesday, at the TVL coaches meeting, four of those seniors were chosen as TVL All-Stars.

  • Lineman and captain Ife Adebayo
  • Lineman Greg Rose
  • Receiver TJ Valente

Ormberg described Opiela in the Medfield High School football team’s program as “an impact player in all three phases of the game. Alex will be looked upon to lead the offense. He was a team leader in receptions, receiving yards and tackles from the secondary as a sophomore and junior.”

Ormberg said Adebayo’s “presence on the offensive and defensive lines will have a major impact on the team’s success this fall. Football is a year-round commitment for Ife. He is a leader in the weight room, the football field and the classroom. Ife led the team in tackles as a junior.” Adebayo was also featured in High School Sports Weekly this season. Ormberg said Rose returned in 2011 with “experience as a starter at center and on special teams. Greg projects to be our starting center and to assist on special teams as a long-snapper.”

Valente, according to Ormberg, “is a major player in a solid class of seniors with varsity experience. He possesses great hands at receiver and can haunt quarterbacks in passing situations from his defensive end position.”

These TVL All-Stars are 4 of 15 MHS seniors that Ormberg has described as “a special class” that “doesn’t stop fighting.”

“We think that every senior that’s on the team is giving everything they can,” Ormberg said after a . “There’s no quit in these guys and that means a lot to us as a coaching staff. That means a lot to the program.”

Medfield’s four league all-stars and the rest of the Warriors are prepping for their final home game a week from Thursday. The Warriors host rival Dover-Sherborn at 10 a.m. at Calvin George Fisher Memorial Field on Thanksgiving.

7th Annual Eric Perkins Memorial Football Tournament

Medfield’s seventh annual Eric Perkins Memorial Flag Football Tournament will be held on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 10 a.m. at the Calvin George Fisher Memorial Field turf.

“I met with the Perkins family early in 2011 and it was decided that we
would continue honoring Eric's legacy by continuing to play the game he
loved the Saturday after Thanksgiving,” Ormberg said.

To reserve a spot for your flag football team, submit a check for $150 (made out to MHS) to Erik Ormberg in the guidance office at the high school. All proceeds will go to the Eric M. Perkins Memorial Football Scholarship & the MHS football program.

“The driving force behind this tournament was to commemorate Eric by celebrating his life and the sport he loved,” Ormberg said. “In five years, this tournament has raised well over $10,000 in Eric’s memory."
