Medfield beat Martha's Vineyard, 4-1 Friday in the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional preliminary round and will travel to Abington on Monday for a first round game.

Medfield softball's storybook season continues.

Playing in their first state tournament game in six years, the Warriors won their first game of the postseason – a 4-1 victory over Martha's Vineyard in the preliminary round of the MIAA D2 South Sectional state tournament.

The day belonged to Jackie Flint, who was stellar on the mound for Medfield, striking out 10 batters and getting out of a number of jams throughout the game. Flint struck out the side in top of the fifth inning to escape a bases loaded jam – allowing one run in the inning – and proceeded to strike out five straight batters before Martha's Vineyard ended the streak with a single to centerfield in the top of the sixth.

Leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Medfield's Allie Duchesneau hit a single to right field that was misplayed by Martha's Vineyard's rightfielder, allowing Duchesneau to reach third base on the play. She scored later in the inning on a passed ball to give Medfield a 2-0 lead.

Medfield plated two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to give the Warriors a 4-1 lead after Martha's Vineyard scored in the top of the fifth. In the seventh, it was a 1-2-3 inning for Flint and a victory celebration for the Warriors.
