Medfield High School Track Teams Notch First Wins of Season

MHS boys' defeat Bellingham, 98-38; Girls' defeat Blackhawks, 91-45 Monday.

The Medfield High School boys' and girls' outdoor track teams took the field at MHS Monday against Tri-Valley League foe Bellingham High School in their 2011 home opener and did not disappoint, earning one-sided victories to even their records at 1-1 this season.

Medfield High School boys' track coach Tom Woods said freshman Jake Phelan is off to s great start this season as a result of his hard work in training.

"[Phelan gives] each workout and race 100 percent and it paid off [Monday], placing second in both the 400m and 200m," said Woods. "If he continues to work the way he has been, I believe he will quickly become one of the elite sprinters in the league."

Woods also credited Michael Baker, a senior, who threw the javeline 140 feet for the first time ever and plaecd first in the event.

"Like Connor Heaney with his off-season work, Mike has invested a lot of time in the jav and seeing the fruits of that hard work is very exciting," said Woods.

MHS girls' beat Bellingham , 91-45

 "A great meet for both teams," said MHS girls' head coach Melinda Lohan. "Stand out performances by Sara Isaacson, Taylor Worthy, Kristina Gustafson, Kate Letai and 4x400m team (Liana Bunce, Cami McCurdy, Taylor Worthy, Alex Stanton). Very proud of their hard work."

The Warriors travel to Medway Thursday  in what should be a highly competitive meet. The meet begins at 3:30 p.m.

"We race Medway at their track which should be a good meet," said Woods.

Boys' and Girls' Tennis Postponed to Tuesday

The Medfield High School boys' and girls' tennis matches against Dover-Sherborn, originally scheduled for Monday, were postponed to Tuesday at the same time and location. The matches will be played if the rain holds out. Check back at Medfield Patch for results.
