PHOTOS: Medfield Boys' Lax Knocks Off Marblehead; Advances to D2 Quarterfinals

The Medfield High School boys' lacrosse team is headed to the MIAA Division 2 East Sectional quarterfinals after defeating Marblehead, 12-7 Friday.

Medfield rebounded from a slow start against Marblehead with a strong second quarter in Friday's 12-7 first round victory to advance in the MIAA Division 2 East Sectional state tournament.

Marblehead, the bracket's 11th seed, scored just 50 seconds into the game to take an early lead before Medfield's Matt Crowell netted two goals to give the Warriors its first lead of the game with 4:17 remaining in the first quarter. Marblehead managed to tie the game at two shortly after and the two teams remained tied at the end of one.

From there, however, it was Medfield. Conor Roddy netted a hat trick in the second quarter, propelling the Warriors to a 5-3 lead with 7:18 remaining in the half. Cal Given and Crowell followed Roddy's lead with a goal apiece to give Medfield a 7-4 halftime advantage.

In the second half, the Warriors outscored Marblehead, 5-3 to win 12-7. Given (2), Mat Cahill, Jack Isaf and Crowell scored second half goals. Crowell led Medfield in scoring with four goals on the day, Roddy and Given each had three apiece.

Medfield (16-4), the bracket's sixth seed and back-to-back defending Division 2 State Champion, advances to the MIAA Division 2 East Sectional quarterfinal round against Catholic Memorial at Catholic Memorial High School at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5.
