Medfield to Celebrate 60 Years of Little League at Sunday's Parade

Medfield Little League's annual parade will be held Sunday at noon followed by Opening Day ceremonies to celebrate 60 years of the program.

This Sunday, the Medfield community will come together to celebrate a milestone in the town’s Little League program, pay tribute to one of its founder and honor the 2011 Williamsport team before opening the 2012 season.

This season marks the 60th anniversary of Medfield Little League and the town is invited to celebrate the milestone at Sunday’s annual Little League Parade and Opening Ceremonies.

The Opening Day parade will start at noon at Memorial Field and proceed out of the parking lot, taking a left onto Adams Street, left onto Dale Street, right onto North Street, left onto Main Street, right onto South Street, right onto Metacomet Street and end at on Pleasant Street.

Immediately following the parade, according to Robert Mills of Medfield Youth Baseball and Softball, all teams will march onto Metacomet Field for the Opening Day ceremonies.

A tribute to , who recently passed away. Palumbo was one of the co-founders of Medfield Little League in 1952 and was a tireless supporter of baseball in Medfield.

Recognition of the – this group went further in the Williamsport Tournament than any other Medfield team, claiming the District 11 championship in last summer’s Williamsport Tournament. The team will be on the field Sunday to hoist its championship banner over Metacomet Field, according to Mills.

Hot dogs, beverages, hats and shirts will be available for purchase at Metacomet Field. A Major League game will complete the day’s events. In the event of inclement weather, check the Medfield Youth Baseball and Softball website at www.medfieldybs.org for cancellation and rain date rescheduling information.
