Medfield Softball Honors Players for Memorable Season

Medfield softball coach Travis Taliaferro announced the team's end of season award winners.

2012 was a memorable season for the softball team.

The Warriors qualified for the state tournament for the first time in six years and won its preliminary round game at home against Martha’s Vineyard, 4-1 and finished the season two games above .500 at 12-10. Medfield fell in the first round to top seeded Abington, 7-4, but the team’s season was still an overwhelming success.

"Obviously very proud of our season," said Medfield’s first-year coach Travis Taliaferro. "Especially considering the very modest expectations that others placed on this team from day one. The girls certainly gave a scare to the number one seeded team and continued to improve throughout the season."

“Lucy has been a four-year starter and has been the backbone of our team defensively and in terms of leadership and enthusiasm,” said Taliaferro. “She and Kristin Foster (co-captains) have done a great job of helping me in my first year, and inspiring the younger players.”

Team Sportsmanship Award: Amanda Kane, senior infielder. “Amanda is one of
the most consistently upbeat and pleasant kids to be around, and works
hard every day,” Taliaferro said. “She leads by example, and will be missed by the entire team. I am very happy for her and the other seniors that we [got] a
shot at the tournament in their final season.”
Taliaferro said Medfield placed second in the Tri-Valley League sportsmanship vote this season, finishing one vote behind Westwood.
