400 Kids Participate in Medfield Soccer's Annual 3v3 Tournament

Four hundred Medfield boys and girls in grades four through eight participated in the annual soccer event this past Sunday. The event is Medfield Soccer's largest fundraiser of the year.

This past Sunday, 400 students in grades four through eight hit the – in costume – for the annual Medfield 3v3 Tournament, which is Medfield Soccer’s largest fundraiser of the year.

The children registered in teams of three (and all playing abilities) and each team played three 30-minute games against other teams of three in their same age group.

While this form of soccer is reported by United States 3v3 Soccer as the “fastest growing soccer format” in the United States, Medfield’s event is ever-popular, in part, because most children play in costume.

Fifth graders Rachel Tatro, Katelyn Malvese, and Katy Enos made up the team “Sesame Street Zombies.”

“I love 3v3,” said Tatro, who dressed as Cookie Monster Zombie. “It’s a fun way to express your inner weirdness. Go 3V3!”

This was the third year playing for Malvese, who played as Big Bird Zombie.

"I really like soccer," Malvese said. "It’s fun to dress up and play with my friends against my other friends. I have participated in the 3v3 before and I thought this year’s event was really fun!"

Enos rounded out the team as Elmo Zombie.

“It was my first time doing it and it was a lot of fun," she said. "I really liked it because it was fun seeing what people would choose for costumes and just being able to play soccer without having to worry about the score was fun, too.”

Other team names included: Utensils, Wicked Angry Birds, A-Team, Utensils, Fast Food Freaks, Creative Crayolas, Little Stinkers, Trash Monsters, Power Walkers, Smarty Pants, Bacon Lettuce Tomato, Soccer Smurfs, Batman’s Enemies, 80s Girls, Ninja Turtles, Red Riding Hood, The Geek Squad, Geezers, Three Stooges, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Three Peas in a Pod, Awesome Funky Rainbows, The Inferno, Unfrozen Cavemen Lawyers, The Tools, Blue Man Group, and many more.

Prizes were raffled to players including soccer apparel, New England Revolution tickets, a tuition waiver for Medfield’s next soccer season, tickets to a concert (yet to be determined), and much more.

Each player was given a trophy and t-shirt for participating.

All money raised – including the $75 per team registration fee – helps fund the Medfield Soccer program.
