VIDEO: Medfield Outdoor Track Teams Beat Millis in Season Openers

The Medfield High School girls' outdoor track team defeated Millis 126-10 and the boys' beat Mohawks, 106-24 Monday.

The boys' and girls' outdoor track teams began its 2012 seasons in winning fashion with decisive victories over Millis Monday.

The Medfield High School girls' outdoor track team defeated the Mohawks, 126-10 and the boys' beat Millis, 106-24.

"A great start for the Warriors," said MHS girls' track coach Melinda Lohan. "I am very pleased this season to have such a great turn out. It seems we have all the pieces to the puzzle of a successful season, but it is going to take us some time for everything to gel because we have a lot of new faces. Each class has different strengths and it is going to take all of us to accomplish our goals this season."

Lohan credited the following Medfield tracksters for the team's dominant effort Monday:

  • Taylor Worthy – qualifying to for DIV III in the 800 and anchoring the 4x400 with a sub 60 split.
  • Kate Letai – qualifiying in the 800 for DIV III
  • Kristina Gustafson, Megan McCordic, Rose Sievewright, and Melissa Newell for qualifying for DIV III in the 4x100.

MHS girls' track captains this spring are Melissa Newell, Liz Varner and Cassidy Baird.

The MHS boys' opened the season with a new sense of focus after many of the team's athletes experienced a lackluster indoor track season.

"A 5-5 indoor season was an eye-opener for many of the athletes and they are all-in this season," said MHS head coach Tom Woods. "It has been a fun first few weeks."

Among the Warriors top performers Monday, Ryan Boudreau qualified for division 3 meet in the 100, Ian Robertson in the 2 mile and Connor Barrett in the shot put.

"Great first day," Woods said. "Greg Lyons and Connor Heaney ran strong races in the 800 and Evan Berry set the bar in the League in the 400 hurdles his first time running them. We have high expectations for the season."
