Medfield No-Hit by Wellesley South in Section 3 Final

Medfield's 12A Little League All-Stars fell to Wellesley South, 5-0 Saturday in the Section 3 Finals, ending the Warriors' season.

NORWOOD – It was a rough way to end the season for Medfield's 12A Little League All-Stars, suffering a 5-0, no-hit loss to Wellesley South in the Section 3 Finals Saturday.

It was a big day for Wellesley South pitcher Robbie Cerulle, who on the mound threw a no-hitter with five strikeouts and surrendered only one walk. At the plate, Cerulle kick started the Wellesley South offense with a two-run home run to give Wellesley South a 2-0 lead after the first inning.

In the top of the second, Wellesley continued to put runs on the board as Isaac Weycker scored off a Billy Seidl single to increase the lead to 3-0.

Despite the tough challenge in facing Wellesley South, Medfield never showed quit on the diamond. Even when things looked bleak, Medfield played hard and with determination. The never quit attitude is one that coach Joey Petrucci will remember the most about this team.

“Perseverance," he said. "They had a great run but down five runs, six runs, seven runs …. I’m going to remember those comebacks.”

Leading Wellesley South was Billy Seidl, who went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. In addition to his no-hitter, Cerulle went 1-for-3 with a home run and 2 RBI.

On the mound for Medfield was Chris McGrory, who threw 85 pitches and three strikeouts over 5.1 innings.

While Medfield’s season is over, Wellesley South will move on to the State Finals on Thursday in Taunton. The final round will be a round-robin style tournament with the four sectional winners in the state.  Matchups have yet to be finalized.
