Medfield Legion Hosts Franklin Thursday

Medfield looks to open season 3-0 against Franklin at Curt Schilling Field Thursday at 5:45 p.m.

The Medfield Post 110 American Legion Beckwith team returns to the diamond Thursday at 5:45 p.m. against Franklin at Curt Schilling Field in Medfield.

Medfield has started the season 2-0, beating Needham, 13-4 at Needham High School on June 9 and cruising past Norfolk, 9-4 on June 12.

This year’s roster, according to manager Rob Mintz, is anchored by veterans Vinny Palumbo, Nick Santangelo, James Sullivan and Gabe Mirabelli, all returning collegians.

Medfield High School’s Mike Keleher, 2011 Tri-Valley League MVP, leads another all-star veteran group, including Medfield’s Jimmy Magrath, Will Cousins, T.J. Valente, Millis’ Derek Latosek, Kyle Latosek, Jake Bradbury, and Dover’s Cole Tibbetts.

Six talented rookies round out the roster and will provide substantial depth in many positions to the team include: Medfield’s Brian McCloud, Jake Mintz, Mark Poli, Sam Jordan, Walker Littlehale and Derek Bauer.

Second-year head field coach, James Lagos, will again be joined by assistant coach Matt Kane and the return of the sage bench coach, Stan Winston, Medfield’s first ever Legion skipper.

Adam Villone remains at the bench to provide managerial support, scorebook and statistical analyses. Mintz has now coached and managed the team since revitalizing the program in 2002.

Even in the highly competitive District 6, Medfield looks to draw from its high school’s 2011 Tri-Valley Championship group and team depth in all positions to secure another postseason opportunity in July. With an 18-game schedule over a 30-day season, there will be plenty of top-quality baseball to be had at the Medfield High School Schilling Field and area towns.
