Medfield Gymnast Named to 2014 Jr. Olympic National Team

Medfield High School freshman Addison Chung will train in Colorado this summer.

A Medfield student and youth gymnast has been named to the 2014 Junior Olympic National Gymnastics team. 

Addison Chung, a freshman at Medfield High School, was named a gold medalist in several events at the 2014 Massachusetts Level 9 State Championship in March, according to Medfield resident Cathy Chung, Addison's mother. 

Last weekend, Chung, who has trained at the New England Sports Academy in Westwood, secured a spot on the 2014 Junior Olympic National Gymnastics team

Athletes at the event competed for two days, and Chung was named to the team, which comprises the Top 10 elite 9-, 13-, and 14-year-old athletes. 

Next up for Chung is the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, where he will train in June and again in October and also compete in Colorado at the U.S. National Qualifier event in July for a chance to compete at the Proctor & Gamble National Championships in Pittsburgh on Aug. 21-24.

Last month, gymnasts from across New England competed for the regional title at the Region 6 Championships in Braintree last month, when Chung took the gold medal on the floor, still rings and parallel bar events. He placed third all around
