Medfield Girls U-10 Softball Completes Undefeated Season

At 10-0-1, the Medfield girls' U-10 softball team finished its season unbeaten and in first place of the Twin Valley Girls Softball League.

The Medfield U-10 Warriors girls' summer softball team finished its season in first-place and undefeated (10-0-1) in the Twin Valley Girls Softball League. The U-10 league includes teams from Hopkinton, Westwood, Ashland, Medway, and Mills and is made up of girls born in 2000 or 2001.

The team’s success was the result of strong, deep pitching (with nine different girls contributing on the mound) and explosive hitting. The Medfield U-10s averaged 10 runs scored per game and held opponents to just six runs per game. Over the 11 game schedule, the girls showed the ability to win games in a variety of ways. In game 10 against second-place Millis, it took a sixth inning, come-from-behind rally with a number of clutch contributions to keep the undefeated season intact.

However, the team was also able to take control of games against strong opponents like Hopkinton (game 5, 13-4) and Westwood (last game of the season, 9-3).

“By the end of the season, other teams were really gunning for us and hoping to be the team to give us our first loss," said head coach Jerry Potts. "I was proud of the way the team handled the pressure and how every girl contributed, pulled for each other, and most importantly, had fun.”

The U-10’s achievement was part of a very successful summer for Medfield baseball and softball overall. In baseball, and Tri-Valley Minors teams made it to the championship games and the and play in the (one of eight teams in the state.)
