Medfield Girls' Track Places 10th in MIAA D3 Eastern Championships

Medfield boys' track placed 22nd; Girls' lacrosse opens state tournament play Tuesday at home and baseball learned its seeding in the MIAA state tournament.

The Medfield High School girls' track team placed 10th out of 32 schools competing in Friday's 2011 Eastern Massachusetts Division 3 Outdoor Track Championships on May 27. 

Schools competed in 18 events and Bishop Feehan of Attleboro won the meet with 97 points. Medfield finished with 22 to earn the top 10 finish. The meet was held at Oliver Ames High School in North Easton.

  • Freshman Taylor Worthy placed seventh in the Girls 400 meter dash with a time of 60.68; junior Cassidy Baird placed 23rd in the same event with a time of 64.74.
  • Freshman Sally Todd placed 17th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:30.44.
  • Senior Alex Stanton, who holds the state record in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 61.96 (ran last year), won the event with a time of 63.08, more than five seconds better than second place.
  • Medfield placed seventh in the 4x800 meter relay. The team of Cassidy Baird, Lauren Rimmell, Kate Letai and Sally Todd finished with a time of 10:39.67.
  • Medfield placed fifth in the 4x100 meter relay. The team of Kristina Gustafson, Melissa Newell, Megan McCordic and Kate Piersiak finished with a time of 51.56.
  • Medfield placed fifth in the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Liana Bunce, Mekenzie Smith, Megan McCordic and Taylor Worthy finished with a time of 4:14.54.
  • Mekenzie Smith finished the triple jump in 12th place with a leap of 32-07.00.

Boys' Track Places 22nd in D3 Championship Meet

The Medfield High School boys' track team placed 22nd out of 36 teams with 13 points. Bishop Feehan of Attleboro won the meet with 71 points on May 27.

Here's a closer look at how Medfield performed in meet:

  • Senior Ben Lester finished fourth in the 1-mile run with a time of 4:27.66.
  • Freshman Ian Robertson finished 12th with a time of 4:42.23.
  • Junior Jack Moses finished the 2-mile run in 15th place with a time of 10:26.17. Sophomore Blake Brown finshed in 26th in the event with a time of 10:57.78 and Michael Creedon finished with at time of 11:09.54 – good for 29th place.
  • James Marvel-Coen finished 10th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 60.05.
  • Medfield finished second to Pembroke in the 4x800 meter relay. The team of Evan Berry, Ben Lester, Connor Heaney and Joey Smith ran a time of 8:18.01.
  • Justin Williams finished 27th in the triple jump with a leap of 37-01.00.
  • Michael Baker placed 20th in the javelin throw with a toss of 132-01. 

Medfield Girls' Lax Opens State Tourney Play

The Medfield High School girls' lacrosse team, the top seed in the MIAA Girls' Lacrosse South Division 2 Sectional State Tournament, will host Scituate Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the MHS turf. 

This is a time change from the 4 p.m. start time originally announced on the MIAA website. Scituate, the bracket's 16th seed, defeated 17th-seeded Archbishop Williams, 19-7 in preliminary round action. 

Medfield Baseball Earns 3rd Seed in State Tournament

Medfield High School baseball coach Matt Marenghi told Medfield Patch the Warriors' baseball team earned the No. 3 seed in the MIAA Division 3 South Sectional State Tournament. 

That, according to Marenghi, means Medfield will host the winner of Canton/Norton, to be played at Norton on Thursday, this Saturday at Curt Schilling Field at 3 p.m.
