Medfield Girls' Hockey Season Ends in Overtime Defeat

Warriors fell to Ursuline Academy, 3-2 in overtime in the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional first round Thursday.

WALPOLE – All good things come to an end and for the girls' hockey team, that end was their season Thursday night at the Iorio Arena.

The Warriors lost 3-2 in overtime to the Ursuline Academy of Dedham in the first round of the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional State Tournament, ending a season full of success in head coach Molly Norton's first year with the program. 

Medfield (14-3-4) won the Southeastern North Division title and the (a tradition against Dover-Sherborn), beat Canton – a division powerhouse the Warriors had struggled against in the past and earned the No. 3 seed in the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional state tournament.

Ursuline Academy (10-7-4) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period when Christyn Karol beat MHS goaltender Mimi Borkan at the 14:51 mark and took a 2-0 lead early in the second, when Karol netted her second goal of the game just a over a minute into the period. 

Medfield answered with two goals of its own in the second. Amanda Cronin netted a goal at the 5:42 mark, assisted by Julia Redden and freshman Ally Slowe tied the game with a tally at the 13:52 mark. The game went into overtime, and at 11:28 in the extra period, Emily Sullivan netted the game-winner, propelling the Bears into the MIAA D2 South Sectional quarterfinals where they will face-off against Concord-Carlise at 12:01 p.m. in Foxboro Sunday. Ursuline is the 14th seed in the tournament.

Medfield's season comes to an early end with seniors Meara Stack, Erin Lueders, Paige Moran and Becca Lueders playing their last games as a Warrior.
