MEDWAY – The field hockey team extended two streaks Wednesday in a 2-0 victory over Medway.
The Warriors extended their winning streak to five games, including four straight in the Tri-Valley League and goalkeeper Carrie Cook extended her shutout streak to four straight games, stopping five Medway shots.
The game was scoreless with seven minutes to play when senior forward Julia Redden scored off an Emily Zlevor assist to give Medfield a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, Sammy Sturchio put the game away with a goal of her own to extend the lead to 2-0. Zlevor recorded her second assist and now has seven in five games.
"Julia Redden had a great game," Medfield head coach Mike Mason said. "Constantly applying pressure."
Mason said Medfield co-captain, senior Lauren Yancich, also had a great game leading the Warriors' defense.
Medfield outshot Medway, 21-5. The Warriors next game will be at home Friday at 6:30 p.m. on the turf against Hopkinton. Mason teams around the TVL are starting to take notice of Medfield's early success.
"We're playing with targets on our backs," Mason said. "Teams are coming after us and it's easy for them to get up to play us. Medway was good [Wednesday]. We've got to be able to respond."
