Medfield Cross Country Teams Continue to Dominate TVL

Medfield boys' and girls' cross country teams cruise past Norton Thursday to improve to 3-0 this season.

NORTON – It may have been Medfield’s first away meet of the season, but that didn’t stop the Warriors from beating out both the Norton boys' and girls' cross country teams Thursday.

The Medfield girls' defeated Norton, 15-50 and the Medfield boys' defeated the Lancers, 17-41.

Though Norton was quick out of the gate, Medfield’s Ian Robertson and Jack Moses took the lead early on in the first lap around the puddle-filled course. Robertson came in first place with a time of 14:28.

“Their course presents different challenges from the Medfield course,” said Medfield head coach Tom Woods. “We are very hilly, sort of rock terrain we see some mulch we see some gravel. This is very flat, so pacing is going to be different. But the kids did well. We have a lot of milers and two milers from the track team, so they know how to get out and they ran very strong.”

Norton’s first runners to cross the finish line were sophomores Max Marcotte, 15:32, and Billy Sullivan, 15:37. The times were personal records for both.

“To have two sophomores leading the pack is a nice feeling. It’s good for the future,” said Norton head coach Kent Taylor noting that Norton has a young team.

Overall, however, Taylor said the meet went OK.

“I was hoping to break their top three, and that didn’t happen,” he said. “They could have. I feel like they weren’t that far off. We were right there, we were right where we needed to be, it’s just close enough, I guess.”

For the girls', Medfield got a perfect score against Norton, with first place Taylor Worthy clocking in at 17:40 and Ashley Campisano one second later.

“They’ve been running great,” said Medfield girls' head coach, Diane Lyon. “We don’t have our full squad here [Thursday], but the people who showed up did well.”

Jess Greco of Norton High was the first runner for Norton to cross the finish line in ninth place.

Medfield is now 3-0 on the season. The Warriors' next meet is against Medway on Wednesday. Norton is 1-2 with its next meet at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28 at Dover-Sherborn.
