Medfield Boys’ Volleyball Opens State Tourney Play Thursday at Xaverian

Medfield drew the 12th seed in the MIAA Boys' Volleyball Central Division 1 tournament.

The boys’ volleyball team will begin play in the MIAA Central Division 1 State Tournament Thursday night on the road against Xaverian in Westwood.

The MIAA announced its boys’ volleyball pairings for the 2012 state tournament Tuesday and Medfield drew the 12th seed out of 14 teams in the Central Division 1 bracket. Xaverian drew the fifth seed, finishing the regular season with a 14-4 record. Medfield ended the regular season on Monday with a 3-1 victory over Boston College High School, improving its record to a game above .500 at 9-8.

In head-to-head play this season, Xaverian swept Medfield – beating the Warriors 3-0 on April 5 and 3-1 on May 9. The Warriors will be looking to make the third time the charm Thursday in Westwood, beginning at 7 p.m.

The bracket’s top seed this year is Milford, who finished with a perfect 18-0 regular season. Milford knocked Medfield out of the state tournament last spring, defeating the Warriors 3-0.
