Medfield Boys’ Lax Dominates Holliston in Season Opener

quest for a third straight MIAA Division 2 boys’ lacrosse state championship could not have gotten off to a better start Tuesday.

Eleven Warriors scored in a 17-2 route of Holliston in both teams’ season openers at Calvin George Fisher Memorial Field.

“[We] came out and played great for our first game,” said Medfield co-head coach Mike Douglas. … “It’s a great first game. Something that we hope to build on and keep playing together as a team – balanced attack at both ends.”

Medfield (1-0, 1-0) dominated from the opening face-off, netting 10 first half goals, including six in the first quarter. Medfield’s Clay Richard controlled the face-off circle; winning 11 out of 12 draws in the first half.

“[We] pretty much controlled time of possession,” Douglas said. “Definitely in the first half and for the majority of the game. Very unselfish play and a pretty balanced scoring attack.”

Andrew Melvin and Jack Isaf led Medfield’s potent offense with three goals apiece and Conor Roddy netted a goal and four assists. Medfield was able to play two goalies Tuesday. Doug Nelson got the start and played the first half, stopping two shots and Robert Treiber stopped seven shots in the second half.

Medfield is back on the field Thursday in Westwood for a 3:45 p.m. game. Tuesday's win was Douglas and John Isaf's first as co-head coaches.
