Medfield Boys' Basketball 'Outworked' by Westwood in Friday's Loss

Medfield lost 58-49 on home court Friday to Westwood.

Westwood's determination and hustle led to a nine-point victory over host Medfield in Friday's boys' high school basketball game.

"They just outworked us and played a lot tougher than we did," said Medfield head coach Herb Grace after Friday's 58-49 loss. "Like I said, we played hard but they played a heck of a lot harder."

Westwood was able to knock down shots consistently for most of the night while Medfield struggled offensively.

Westwood led the Warriors 19-9 after the first quarter before Medfield came roaring back to close the gap to four at halftime (29-25). Westwood increased its lead to seven (44-37) after three before closing out with a nine-point advantage.

"We got after it a little bit better in the second half," Grace said. "We hit the floor a little bit but other than that we didn’t shoot the ball well, we didn’t make our free throws but we were still in the game at the end. ... It was all about hustle and they seemed to be the more determined basketball team."

Medfield (4-4, 3-3) travels to Bellingham Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. game.

"Hopefully we can mature a little bit and get some more toughness and get some better flow offensively," Grace said.
