Medfield Bounces Foxborough; Advances to Boys' Lax Final

Warriors advance to MIAA Division 2 East Sectional Tournament final against Concord Carlisle after 11-5 victory over Foxborough on Friday.

Medfield's state championship-caliber play was on display Friday in Foxborough as the MHS Warriors defeated the FHS Warriors, 11-5 to advance to the MIAA Division 2 East Sectional Finals against Concord Carlisle on June 14 at Havard Stadium.

Medfield challenged Foxborough all game long and it started in the first quarter. Matthew Crowell got the opening goal for MHS as he found the back of the net at 4:18. The goal started the Medfield attack as Connor Roddy and Chris Diana scored with three minutes of the initial goal.

Foxborough finally responded to Medfield's 3-0 advantage, netting a goal in the final second of the first quarter. Foxborough's Jake Hyland fought his way to the net to get the FHS on the board.

“We just stopped playing with three or four seconds to go and they took advantage of that,” said Medfield coach Bob Aronson.

Medfield answered that goal in a big way, shutting out Foxborough in the second quarter. Medfield quickly increased its lead to 6-1, frustrating Foxborough's players.

“I felt like we pressed where in the last couple of games we possessed the ball for a minute before we went to the goal," said Foxborough head coach Matt Noone. "[Friday] it seemed we had a sense of urgency and we didn’t possess the ball. We went as soon as we got the ball down here."

Foxborough cut the deficit to four as Hyland crashed the net with a wrap-around goal from the left.

Medfield quickly responded with a goal from David Parsons to extend the lead back to five.

Still trying to come back, Foxborough quickly responded with a goal from James Stather to end the quarter down 7-3.

Going into the final quarter, Medfield held off a strong attack from Foxborough as every goal FHS goal scored was answered by Medfield.

Fast and aggressive, Medfield would not be denied its chance to go to the Eastern State Championship.

Medfield's Parsons and Foxborough's Hyland each led their teams in goals with three apiece. Roddy and Diana each scored two goals. In net, Sam Aronson saved 13 shots on goal in what was an impressive performance.

Next for Medfield will be Concord-Carlisle in the finals of the Division 2 Eastern State Tournament. It will be the fifth appearance for Medfield in six years. Playing their best lacrosse of the season, Medfield has been on a roll as of late. Coming into the tournament as the nine seed, Medfield has upset not only Foxborough but the number one seeded Wellesley Raiders.

“We’re just happy that we seem to be peaking at the right time,” said Aronson.
