No Need

Romans 3:22-24 (NLT) - We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ.  And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.  For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.  Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous.  He did this through Christ Jesus when He freed us from the penalty for our sins.

Since my last post, I’ve been thinking about those of you don’t identify with my story – those of you who have been always been kind, selfless, generous rule-followers.  You never had a rebellious, wild period.  You’ve probably sinned, just not that bad.  You don’t carry around any shame or regret.  You feel pretty good about yourself.

You don’t really need a Savior.

Or do you?  The key phrase above is rule-follower.

Take a rule like the speed limit.  Whether you drive 5 or 25 mph over the limit, you break the law.  You may not get caught, but you’re a law breaker.  Similarly, God’s Old Testament laws – the Ten Commandments and many more – were established both to guide the Israelites toward right living and to display their inability to follow perfectly.  In previous posts we’ve seen that God cannot be in the presence of any sin, big or small.  You can’t just be a pretty good rule-follower and come before God.  You have to be perfect without exception, like Jesus.  Are you completely kind, selfless, generous and Christ-like?

I’m guessing you need a Savior just like me.  The Good News is that Jesus wipes away our sin when we set aside our pride and humbly recognize our need for Him.
