Tickets Still Available for Medfield Jazz Night Featuring Grammy-Nominated Conrad Herwig

Medfield Jazz Night will be held Wednesday, May 30 in the Lowell Mason Auditorium of Medfield High School. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors and $12 online and are still available.

Area jazz lovers need not travel to Boston or New York to hear Grammy-nominated musicians.

That's because on Wednesday, May 30, a phenomenal performance will be right in your own backyard here in Medfield.

The event is Medfield Jazz Night, presented by , featuring three-time, Grammy-nominated trombonist Conrad Herwig. This New York-based musician has traveled the world performing and recording with such jazz luminaries as Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra, Joe Henderson, Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente and many others.

Herwig’s album “The Latin Side of Wayne Shorter” was his most recent Grammy nomination for “Best Latin Jazz Album,” and was also named by jazz critics as one of the best albums of 2008.

Joining the stage with Herwig will be the award-winning jazz band – the only New England band that earned a spot in two 2012 prestigious competitions: , and the at Manhattan School of Music. Medfield was also the only New England jazz band selected for Essentially Ellington.

Essentially Ellington is hosted and judged by Wynton Marsalis, as well as other prominent jazz musicians/professionals. Two Medfield students – senior Kabir Thatte (vibes) and sophomore Alex Rosenfeld (trumpet) – were among a small number of participants from across the U.S. who took home Ellington soloist awards. 

At the Mingus competitions, the Medfield jazz band earned the top “Big Band” award in 2011, and a top soloist award this year for senior saxophonist/vocalist Paul Wagenseller.

Also performing at Jazz Night will be the Medfield Jazz band 2, Jazz Choir and Blake Jazz Band. Award-winning jazz choir vocalist Gabrielle Jaques will also be performing with the band at Jazz Night.

Jazz Night kicks off at 7 p.m. on May 30 in the Medfield High School Lowell Mason Auditorium, 88R South St. Tickets are $10 for adults; $5 for students and seniors; and $12 online. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

Jazz Night is a Medfield Music Association event that raises funds to enhance the Medfield music program, including the funding of visiting clinicians and student scholarships. In addition to Needham Bank, Jazz Night sponsors are Clay Family Dealerships and Roche Bros.
