School Committee Agenda: FY13 Budget Public Hearing, Scholarship and School Trips

The Medfield School Committee meets Monday to discuss the latest happenings around the district.

It's budget season in town and the Medfield School Committee will meet Monday to hold its fiscal year 2013 budget public hearing with Superintendent of Schools, Bob Maguire.

At its Jan. 10 meeting, and to be ready to vote on whether to endorse the budget proposal as its own recommendation at Monday's meeting and submit it to the town's Warrant Committee.

Maguire is expected to go over his budget recommendation, which calls for a less than one percent increase in the district's general budget.

"I have submitted a recommendation to [the committee] of 0.87 percent and as I have mentioned [before], there are a number of things that have been helpful,” Maguire said at the Jan. 10 meeting. “Decline in enrollment, community groups have provided some relief from pressure to make the numbers more manageable, our bus contract and so forth. At this stage of the game, I’m feeling cautiously optimistic about where we are."

After reviewing and taking action on the FY13 budget proposal, the committee is expected to hear an update on the status of the fiscal year 2012 budget and will hold further discussion on the capital budget, which was presented at the Jan. 10 meeting.

The committee is also expected to discuss and take action on the Madelyn L. Grant Scholarship, which will be presented by Stephen M. Krawec. The committee will also vote to approve the following school trips:

  • Jazz Ensemble Trip to New York City
  • Medfield High School Trip to France – April 2013

The School Committee meets every first and third Monday of the month in the TV Production classroom of Medfield High School. Meetings begin at 7:30 p.m.
