PHOTOS: 276 Students Participate in Medfield Coalition's 7th Annual Spelling Bee

The Medfield Coalition for Public Education (MCPE) held its seventh annual Spelling Bee Wednesday at the Medfield High School auditorium; raising $2,760 towards grant requests for Medfield Public Schools.

"Simulcast" and "erroneous."

These were the two words that declared two teams comprised of three Medfield students winners at the seventh annual Medfield Coalition for Public Education's Spelling Bee.

The spelling team, "The ABC Professionals" of students Elizabeth Scheck, Abby Frankel and Sarah Boyd won the 3-5 grade competition by correctly spelling the word "simulcast." The winning team in the 6-8 grade competition was "The Muffins," made up of Rebecca Ju, Emily Piersiak, Laura Greenwald.

While these six students walked away winners of the spelling bee, the Medfield Public Schools community walks away victorious as well, thanks to MCPE's efforts.

The spelling bee raised $2,760 towards grant requests made throughout the school district, according to MCPE member Rose Colleran.

"The funds will go toward grant requests from the Medfield Public Schools in the areas of innovative programs, curriculum and enrichment," Colleran said.

Colleran said 92 teams, equaling 276 students, competed in this year's spelling bee.

MCPE is holding another "big fundraiser" at the end of April to support the enrichment programs at all Medfield schools. The event, "Spring Fling Fundraiser – Planting Seeds of Enrichment" will be held at the Endicott Estate in Dedham on Friday, April 27.
