Medfield Girl Scout Collecting Shoes at Wheelock School for 'Hopes for Soles'
Anna Krah, a Medfield High School sophomore and Girl Scout Gold Award candidate and classmates spoke to Wheelock third graders, requesting used shoe donations as part of her Gold Award Service Project.
The third graders at the watched a short video of the children in Nicaragua created by Anna Krah, a sophomore and Girl Scout Gold Award candidate, that she shot from her recent trip there. Krah went on this trip as part of the North Country Mission of Hope, and she is continuing to help the children by holding a "Hopes for Soles" used shoe drive.
"This February I traveled to Nicaragua, an underprivileged country in Central America, and experienced first-hand the poverty and struggles that families face. I noticed that many people either had shoes that were completely falling apart or they had no shoes at all. Although we could never even imagine living the way that people live in Nicaragua, the least we can do is help them," said Krah.
Krah, along with her older sister, MaryEllen, and eight other sophomore girls from MHS took time out of their busy schedules to give a short presentation to all third graders about the need for shoes for the children of Nicaragua.

From now until Friday, June 8, gently used shoes (children and adult) will be collected at the Ralph Wheelock School, 17 Elm St. A collection box will be available just inside the front entrance and in the third grade classrooms. The donated shoes will then will be sent to Nicaragua. Any size and any type of sneakers, sandals or closed shoe are requested.
