Montrose School to Host Presentation on Single-Sex Education on Feb. 16

The event will take place at the Montrose School at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

will present an informative enrichment seminar for parents on Feb. 16 beginning at 7 p.m. at the school on 29 North St.

Dr. Karen Bohlin, Head of Montrose School in Medfield, and Mr. William Burke, Headmaster of St. Sebastian’s School in Needham, will discuss the merits of single-sex education, addressing the fundamentals of how girls and boys learn best. Dr. Karen E. Bohlin is head of the Montrose School and a senior scholar at Boston University’s Center for Character and Social Responsibility (CCSR). A former high school teacher and Assistant Professor of Education at Boston University, Dr. Bohlin is the author of several books on character development and is co-editor of the soon to be released book, Happiness and Virtue: Beyond East and West Toward a New Global Responsibility. A past guest on NPR’s Merrow Report and CBS’s Early Show, she has also been interviewed for Parents Magazine, US News and World Report, Reader’s Digest, New York Times, Boston Globe, and Newsweek. Dr. Bohlin has led numerous professional development programs for school leaders both here and in several countries abroad including England, Austria, Switzerland and Japan.

Mr. William L. Burke III has served St. Sebastian’s School as headmaster since 1990. Prior to St. Sebastian’s, Mr. Burke was an English teacher and Director of Studies at Holderness School before moving on to Canterbury School as Assistant Headmaster. He is a member of the Headmasters’ Association and has served on the boards of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Association of Independent Schools in New England. He is the recipient of Harvard Club of Boston’s Friends of Education Award, 2009 and the St. James Society’s Cardinal Cushing Award, 2011. A highly sought after speaker, Mr. Burke has recently presented at Middlebury College, Yale Divinity School, and the International Boys’ Schools Conference in London, England.
