MIAA State Tournament Schedules Announced for Medfield Hockey Teams

Medfield High boys' face Silver Lake at 8 p.m. Monday in preliminary round; Girls' face Ursuline in Division 2 first round on Thursday.

The MIAA announced the boys’ and girls’  hockey pairings for the Division 2 and Division 3 State Tournaments and both Medfield High School teams will take the ice at the beginning of the week.

The Medfield boys' (12-5-3) are seeded 10th out of 27 teams in the Division 3 South State Tournament and have not played a game since Feb. 16, a 4-2 loss to Westwood, the No. 4 seed in the tournament. Head coach Toby Carlow's Warriors will face-off against 23rd seeded Silver Lake on Monday at 8 p.m. in Brockton for the preliminary round of the tournament. If Medfield beats Silver Lake it would play the winner of the Medway-Wareham game. The remainder of the tournament schedule and dates of games is TBA. The Warriors will be led by star Jim Magrath up front and Connor Roddy between the pipes. Center Ben Cox, defenseman Mike Brown and winger John Buchanan are also key contributors for Medfield.

The MHS girls' (14-2-4) will enter the tournament as the Division 2 South's No. 3 seed, earning a preliminary-round bye. Warriors' head coach Molly Norton's squad will face-off against 14th seeded Ursuline on Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Iorio Arena in Walpole. Medfield tied Barnstable, 1-1 this past Thursday to wrap up its regular season and four Warriors participated in the SEMGHL All-Star game Saturday at Gallo Arena in Bourne. The All-Stars were: Nicole Reardon, Meara Stack, Amanda Cronin and Mimi Borkan. Norton and assistant coach Melissa Belmonte served as the coaches.

Medfield will be led by that quartet of all-stars in the tournament after capping off a very successful regular season. Cronin led the team in scoring with 20 goals and four assists. Stack netted three goals and tallied eight assists, Reardon scored 12 goals to go with nine assists and Borkan allowed just 24 goals this season, good for a 1.29 goals against average.
