MHS Hoops Teams Headed in Different Directions

Medfield girls' basketball looks to stay unbeaten Thursday; Medfield boys' basketball hopes to net season's first win.

It may only be December, but it is clear there are two very different types of seasons unfolding for the boys' and girls' basketball teams.

On the side of the court, the Warriors have struggled to close out games and play consistent defense. The early results haven't been there and Medfield has lost three straight Tri-Valley League games to start the year.

Their latest defeat came against unbeaten Medway (3-0), Tuesday night. The Mustangs ran over the Warriors, 65-36 – outscoring Medfield, 38-18 in the second half. Medway had three players in double figures scoring: team scoring leader, Joe Henry (22 points), Matt Ford (13 points) and Matt Ozzella (11 points).

Medfield (0-3) takes on a Panthers' squad that is 1-1 on the season Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Holliston and will look for its first victory and league victory of 2010.

Meanwhile, the girls' team has opened its with a lot of early success, jumping out to three straight league wins and giving themselves an opportunity to cushion their first-place lead with a win over second place Holliston (2-1) Thursday at the MHS gymnasium.

The Warriors' defense has been instrumental in each of the team's four victories this season but it has been the offense coming together recently that has provided MHS with more consistency on the court, translating into more decisive wins. Tip-off is at 6:30 p.m.
