Medfield Warriors Play Worthy Adversary

Here are the coach's notes from last week's game against Ashland.

Editor's Note: This is a report from the MHS Varsity Football coach regarding last week's game against Ashland.

MHS Varsity Football

Great effort by the kids.  We only had one giveaway, which led to a score,
but we survived it and answered with a long drive and TD of our own.  We
were handed steady adversity by a relentless Ashland team that would not
quit.  Coach Andrew MacKay is building a program over there that is going
to give some people in the league a lot of problems.

Ryan Spillane had a great day rushing for 173 yards on 16 carries.  Tommy
Sears had a big day for us running the ball and at receiver.  Stephen
Ledgor threw two TDs, one to Sears and one to Alex Wong.  Stephen also ran
for a TD and kicked all four PATs.

The team MVP this week was without question the offensive line.  You
cannot amass over 200 yards on the ground without the line doing a
tremendous job.  I give credit to Kevin Gavaghan, our offensive line
coach.  Kevin knew early on that the initial hole was there for our
runningbacks.  We kept that in mind as we tried to maintain balance in our
running and passing attack.  The line was superb and Spillane would get
into the holes, make one cut which resulted in a big day for him and four
or five backbreaking runs of ten plus yards.

I think we held Ashland to one or two first downs which is a testament to
our defense.  Matt Casieri returned from an injury to full time in the
secondary and had an interception for us.  The defense gang-tackled and
pursued to the ball which is something we work on each week.  It was a
good win for the program, at home in front of their fans.

We came out of the game healthy and excited to play our first TVL large
game against Holliston.  Holliston is the defending league champion and we
are excited to play them.
