Medfield Superintendent Will Not Rush to Find Next Blake Middle School Principal

Superintendent Bob Maguire said he hopes to have a plan in place for finding the next Blake Middle School principal at the School Committee's next meeting.

Medfield Superintendent of Schools, Bob Maguire, said he will be taking a "couple steps back" in determining the best option for finding the next principal of Blake Middle School after Robert Parga was named the earlier this week.

"I'm taking a few days off to think [the principal search] through," said Maguire. "It's been a pretty hectic couple of weeks with the process we had [for the high school principal search], which was pretty intensive. At this point, I'm stepping back a little bit and taking a look at what the options are that we have that are available."

Maguire said he will meet with the Blake faculty on Monday and speak with them about where the school administration is with the process and the next steps that will be taken.

"I just really want to be thoughtful," said Maguire. "These are very important decisions that need to be made. I'm really not in the mindset of trying to rush to a decision."

When asked if he would take a similar approach in determining the next principal at Blake as he did at Medfield High, Maguire said it was an option.

"I've got to consider the timing in terms of looking at a calendar and thinking about that certainly," Maguire said. "One of the things we could do is that whole process [search committee, applicant reviews, interviews]. There's other options. We are looking at the time frame and whether or not there are any strong, internal candidates interested."

Maguire said because of the time of year, an interim candidate may be a viable course of action.

"There's the possibility of looking into some sort of interim candidate," said Maguire. "Depending on how that calendar thing looks and trying to fill it. It's a long process and it takes several months."

Maguire stressed the importance of taking "steps back" after the intensive process of the high school principal search before reengaging in the middle school principal search.

"At this point, what I’m doing is taking a couple steps back and really considering hard what the different ideas and options that are available," Maguire said. "My discussion with the school committee [at April 4] meeting when we introduced Robert [Parga] was the same thing. My hope was to come forward with a plan for them at their next meeting in April [25], which is right after the break."
