Medfield Student Named Semifinalist at U.S. Presidential Scholars Program

A Medfield student was named a semifinalist in the 2014 U.S. Presidential Scholars program this spring, school officials announced this week. 

Ida Xu, a graduating senior at Medfield High School, was named among 565 semifinalists chosen from more than 4,000 candidates on the basis of superior achievement, leadership qualifies, personal character and involvement in community and school activities.

The Commission on Presidential Scholars, which comprises a group of citizens appointed by the President, makes the final selection of scholars, which can be found here. The Commission subsequently chooses one young man and woman from each state, as well as from the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. students living abroad. In total, up to 20 students will represent the visual, literary and performing arts and 15 students at large, according to the announcement. 

Scholars are then invited to Washington, D.C. in June to receive the U.S. Presidential Scholars medallion at a recognition ceremony and participate in activities and events held in their honor.
