Medfield Native, Gov. Patrick to Speak at UMass Amherst Commencement

Hayley Mandeville, a public health major, will speak this year.

A Medfield native has been chosen to be the student speaker this year at the undergraduate commencement of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Hayley Mandeville, a public health major from Medfield, is believed to be the first public health major to receive the distinction, according to UMass

Mandeville was chosen above competition to speak after submitting her speech for consideration, then subsequently auditioning in front of a committee, according to the announcement.

Mandeville plans to pursue a master's degree in public healthy from UMass Amhester, according to the school.

The commencement will welcome about 5,500 students the McGuirk Alumni Stadium on Friday, May 9. Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick will deliver the commencement address.
