Medfield High School Student Advisory Council Presents Class Updates to School Committee

News and notes from the Feb. 7 School Committee meeting.

The members of the Medfield High School Student Advisory Council provided the Medfield School Committee with updates from the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes Monday.

The Senior Class provided an update on the annual Senior Class Fashion Show, which will be held March 18. Sign-ups were last week and tickets for parents of seniors went on sale today. Tickets for the general public go on sale on Feb. 22.

The Fashion Show was secondary news to a much more serious matter, however, as the Senior Class wants to support a MHS student whose family is going through a difficult time.

A Medfield High School junior's mother was recently diagnosed with Leukemia and the family wants to get publicity about Be The Match Foundation, which is a bone marrow donation program. Members of the Senior Class participated in a foundation event in Walpole two weeks ago and said the event will be coming to Medfield in the first two weeks of March and the idea is to get the Class as well as others in the community to participate in the event, give back and help those in need.

The Junior Class provided an update on Prom, which is three weeks from this past Sunday. The class is planning to raffle tickets to events such as concerts and possibly Red Sox tickets at the Prom in order to keep students at the event longer, an idea that the School Committee praised.

"It is a shame to see so many people get so excited for the event and the investment of the event and the night only to leave early so [the idea is] great," said Superintendent of Schools Bob Maguire.

The Sophomore Class reported it is holding a Medfield Warriors shirt sale. The front of the shirts will feature the Warriors' logo and the back will feature the number 13, representing the Class of 2013, in football lettering. The cost of t-shirts are $13 and long sleeves are $17.

The Freshman Class reported on its class skating event that was originally going to be held last Saturday at the Norfolk Arena but was rescheduled to March 5 due to snow. The cost of the event is $10 for admission and an additional $4 to rent skates (if needed). Freshmen must pay Class Dues in order to participate in the event. The time of the event remains undetermined.

Principal Search Committee Application Deadline Approaching:

Maguire issued a reminder that applications for the principal search committee are due on or before Feb. 18. School Committee members Tim Bonfatti and Debbie Noschese volunteered to be the committee members involved in the process. They will attend meetings and assist in the search. First search committee meeting is targeted for mid-March. Principal candidates must also submit their applications to Maguire on or before Feb. 18.
