Medfield High School Academic Year in Review: Personal and Professional Development

This is part four of an 11-part series that takes an in-depth look at Medfield High School's 2010-2011 academic year; goals for 2011-12 academic year; new curriculum offered in the fall; a pilot program; student life and the transition to a new principal.

Editor's Note: Medfield Patch will take an individual look at each theme in Judy Noble’s end of year report at the high school and will also take an in-depth look at goals for the 2011-12 academic year, new curriculum being offered in the fall, an advisor-advisee pilot program taking place, student life and community involvement and the transition from Noble to Robert Parga as Medfield High School principal. This is part four of our 11-part Medfield High School series.

Personal and Professional Development:

“Professional development days this year were designed around answering some NEASC recommendations, bullying prevention information, continued work on common assessments and providing information about establishing an advisory program at the high school,” Noble said.

Year Highlights:

  • Over the summer of 2010, a group of four faculty members attended a two-day workshop on creating and utilizing common assessments. In addition, other faculty members attended workshops throughout the school year. These individuals have shared their gathered knowledge with the faculty as a whole.
  • Many faculty members continued to utilize job embedded days to revamp and refine curriculum. Teachers worked together to ensure consistency in instruction and assessment.
  • Teachers continued to enjoy the opportunity to participate in the “Teachers as Scholars” program.
  • Three members of the faculty are involved in training for teaching online courses for TEC for next year. This is in addition to the VHS and TEC teachers who were trained last year. This year one of our biology/environmental science teachers incorporated some online work into her classes for a “blended learning” approach.
