Warriors clinch Tri-Valley League for third straight season after Friday's 47-33 victory over Ashland.

ASHLAND – 2010-11 has been the year of the Warrior in high school girls' basketball.

So was 2009-2010 and 2008-2009.

The Medfield High School girls' basketball team captured its third straight Tri-Valley League division title Friday after defeating second-place Ashland, 47-33 on the Clockers' home court.

"It was a big win against a very good Ashland team that had been playing outstanding basketball," said Medfield head coach Mark Nickerson. "This game clinched the TVL title for us outright."

Medfield's defense returned to form Friday after a brief stretch of letdowns over the past couple of games according to Nickerson.

"The difference in the game tonight was our team defense," Nickerson said. "This was a return to our defensive intensity of the beginning to middle of the season."

After trailing 11-10 after the first quarter, Medfield turned it up a notch on both ends of the ball, but especially on defense, and outscored Ashland, 37-22 in the remaining three quarters.

Jen Narlee led Medfield with a double-double –14 points and 10 rebounds and Kristin Fechtelkotter was next with eight points but it was a well-balanced team effort that locked up the TVL title.

"It was once again a great team effort," said Nickerson.

Medfield (16-1, 15-0) is on the road for its final three games of the regular season: at Holliston on Monday, at Millis on Tuesday and at Norton on Friday. Then it's tourney time.
