Medfield Boys' Golf Places Second Behind Westwood in D3 State Finals

Medfield was edged by Westwood in the MIAA Boys' Golf Division 3 State Championship; finishes second to Wolverines.

"It was so close," Medfield head coach George Callahan said after Monday's MIAA Boys' Golf Division 3 State Final at Glen Ellen Country Club in Millis.

And close it was.

Medfield and 2011 MIAA D3 State Champion Westwood tied with a final score of 313 but the Wolverines edged the Warriors with an 83 vs. 84, according to Callahan.

The second place finish Monday concludes a memorable season for the program.

"I'm sure they are disappointed now but that's what sports all all about and it in no way detracts from a great season," Callahan said.

Callahan said Dave Swanson was the Tri-Valley League co-MVP with Zach Schuster of Norton. Mike Mulrey and Brett Thomas were TVL All-Stars. Pat O'Reilly, Mike DiFiore, Dan Neidermire and Dan Pucci were TVL Honorable Mention All-Stars.

"All the players are great kids," Callahan said. "I could'nt be more proud of them."
